Spicy Oven-Fried Chicken
Spicy oven-fried chicken is a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional fried chicken. It’s made with a crispy coating and flavorful spices, but is baked in the oven instead of deep-fried. Here’s a recipe to try at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Cooking spray
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Cut chicken into strips or nuggets.
- In a shallow dish, mix together flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, thyme, basil, and oregano.
- In another shallow dish, beat together egg and milk.
- In a third shallow dish, place panko breadcrumbs.
- Dip chicken strips/nuggets into the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
- Dip into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
- Finally, coat in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Place coated chicken on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Lightly spray chicken with cooking spray.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
