There are several steps you can take to help reduce your risk of liver cancer. Here are some strategies that may be helpful:

  1. Get vaccinated for hepatitis B: Hepatitis B is a viral infection that can cause liver damage and increase the risk of liver cancer. Getting vaccinated for hepatitis B can help prevent infection and reduce your risk of liver cancer.
  2. Practice safe sex: Hepatitis B and C can be transmitted through sexual contact. Using condoms and practicing safe sex can help reduce your risk of these infections.
  3. Avoid sharing needles: Hepatitis B and C can also be spread through sharing needles or other injection equipment. Avoiding the use of illicit drugs or seeking treatment for substance abuse can help reduce your risk of these infections.
  4. Limit alcohol consumption: Drinking alcohol in excess can cause liver damage and increase the risk of liver cancer. Women should limit their alcohol intake to no more than one drink per day, and men should limit their intake to no more than two drinks per day.
  5. Maintain a healthy weight: Being overweight or obese can increase your risk of liver cancer. Aim to maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular physical activity.
  6. Eat a healthy diet: A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains may help reduce the risk of liver cancer. Limit consumption of red and processed meats, which have been linked to an increased risk.
  7. Get screened regularly: People at high risk for liver cancer, such as those with chronic hepatitis B or C infection or liver cirrhosis, should be screened regularly for liver cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider about which screening test is best for you and how often you should be screened.

If you have concerns about your risk of liver cancer or need help developing a risk reduction plan, talk to your healthcare provider. They can help determine which strategies may be most appropriate for you based on your individual risk factors.
