Symptoms and Prevention of Glaucoma

Symptoms of glaucoma can vary depending on the type of glaucoma a person has. However, some common symptoms include:

  1. Blurred vision
  2. Halos around lights
  3. Eye pain
  4. Redness in the eye
  5. Loss of peripheral vision
  6. Tunnel vision

The best way to prevent glaucoma is to have regular eye exams with an eye doctor. This is especially important if you are at an increased risk for developing glaucoma, such as if you have a family history of the disease, are over the age of 60, have diabetes, or are African American or Hispanic/Latino.

In addition to regular eye exams, there are some lifestyle changes you can make to help reduce your risk of developing glaucoma. These include:

  1. Quitting smoking
  2. Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables
  3. Maintaining a healthy weight
  4. Getting regular exercise
  5. Managing chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure

By taking these steps and regularly seeing your eye doctor, you can help reduce your risk of developing glaucoma and catch it early if it does occur.
